From the ashes of the worst training session ever, the mighty U7s rose like a Phoenix to play some AWESOME rugby. Passing, phase play, at times in a defensive line and vaguely on side, it was excellent.
Fantastic effort from the Mighty U7s this morning, no idea what the score was but the boys were AWESOME !!! Let's crack on from here and make the Mighty Maroubra Missiles a team to be reckoned with...
Very proud coach, Joseph Shaw
A great game for the boys in Round 7 against a Clovelly Red side who were in a similar position on the table. A slow start with very little possession saw the Missile down 14-5 at half time. BUT THEN SOMETHING CLICKED and everything we were doing at training came into play with the Missiles running in five tries to two in the second half!! A great display of passing and competing in the ruck. A great win boys - well done!!! Celeb May was man of the match.
The U10s had their first hit out against the Coogee Black side in the Randwick Rep Trials. A bit of a slow start in the first half, but some great try line defence by the entire team over a number of phases kept the Coogee side to two converted tries. The second half was MUCH better with the forwards doing some great work in the ruck and mauls giving the Missiles lots of possession and using the backline to move the ball wide to score five tries to one in the second half. A five tries to three victory to the Maroubra Missiles and some excellent team work – well done boys!!!!
U11s played Friday night and had a smashing win against Canterbury 48-0. All boys played well and Byron Yeo was man of the match!!
The U9s played East Macauley who made a swift start to lead 2-0 before the boys remembered their tacking practice from training! The boys recovered to be 3-3 at half time with the forwards turning over possession and the backs putting their backline passing into action. Some solid try line defence kept the opposition to 1 try in the second half while the Missiles ran in 6 tries. Final score 9-4, tries to Ben, Julian, Kye and Jacob. Men of the Match were Kye and Julian. Great games boys – well done!!
The U9s played Bays Gold and were rewarded with a try fest after implementing some of their new training skills. The forwards pushed over the ball to retain possession while the backs passed the ball wide to the wing to see some entertaining play and tries to Jonas, Kye, Jack, Caleb, Max, Jacob, Rory and Julian. It was pleasing to see some improved tackling, but still an area to work on. Final score 17-2. Well done boys!!
The Missiles were up against the Clovelly White outfit this week and played one of their best games for the season winning 10-2. The Missiles showed some excellent work in the ruck and maul to maintain possession, feed the ball to the backs and score some great tries. Some really good work in the ruck and maul by Ollie, Luca and Jacob. There was also some great defensive work with Matthew, Conor and Julian pulling off some great tackles at critical times in the game. Men of the match were Jonas and Ben. Another great win boys – keep it up!!
The Missiles played the Bondi Breakers this week with a hard fought 11-5 win. The boys have put their rucking and mauling training into practice and dominated possession and were able to run in some fine tries. Try scorers included Rory, Julian, Jonas, Luca, Kye and Ben. Man of the match was Luca. Great win boys!!
The U9s played the top of the table South Coogee Red Devils and despite losing 10-2 played one of their best games. The Missiles were on top in the ruck and mauls and had their fair share of possession. The Devils had a few fast players (including the district 100m champion!) and we were unable to get those early tackles in to stop them going in some quick tries. The Devils have won most of their games by bigger margins, so not a bad result. Players of the match were Ollie for great work in the ruck and maul , and Matthew for some outstanding tackling. Well done boys!!
The Maroubra Missiles U9s played Coogee Black who were a very well drilled outfit. The Missiles had a promising start with Kye scoring the first try, but Coogee hit back some good ball control and cleanouts at the ruck which saw them score four first half tries. The Missiles defended better in the second half with Ben doing some great work close to the line to score two tries. A great effort by all the boys eventually going down 7-3. Conor was man of the match with a great defensive effort throughout the game.
The U9s were lucky enough to secure a berth in the curtain raiser for Randwick v Southern Districts Shute Shield game at Coogee Oval on Saturday afternoon. The boys played a15 minute power half against the South Coogee Red Devils before forming the guard of honour for the first graders and cheering them on. Thanks to Ollie for playing with the other side to even up the teams, and to all the parents for making the time to come to Coogee for the afternoon match
This week the boys played Clovelly Blue on a cold Nagle Park morning. Clovelly struck early with a couple of tries off the edge of the ruck. Caleb, Jonas and Ben provided some great running in the middle which lead to breaks and tries to be behind 4-3 at half time. The boys improved their ball retention in the second half along with some great tackling to post a 7-7 draw. Great fight back boys!! Man of the match was Peter.
The boys played Macauley Blue this week and learnt a lesson in ball control and mauling! The Macauley boys managed to turn over a lot of possession and skipped to a 4-1 lead at half time. The Missiles fought back well in the second half with some great ball retention which lead to six tries and some great defence to run out winners 7-6. A great win boys!! Man of the match was Kye.
The U9s played their first 2014 season game against Bays Green at Nagle Park this week. The boys played a great game with a few new rules and additional players on the paddock. The forwards played well running the ball back after the kick-off and each turn over after that. This led to a lot of open running and a lot of tries!!! There was also some excellent passing and support play by all the boys. Another pleasing aspect of the game was the boy’s defence with some great tackling across the field and only one try let in – well done boys!! Players of the match were Caleb, Ollie and Jack.
